| In this project, novel methods and techniques accompanied by conventional procedures are applied to set a new standard for the collection, description and re-description of soft-bodied hexacorals. High abundance and diversity, fragmentary and confusing taxonomy, interesting zoogeography and the urgent need for data for ecological studies made Chilean sea anemones a perfect target group for the novel approach. Applying this approach, some selected species were described resp. re-described (Anemonia alicemartinae, Oulactis concinnata, Phymactis papillosa, Phymanthea pluvia, Actinostola chilensis). In the published papers, the genera with marginal ruff and these with non-adhesive vesicles on the colum as well as the South American Actinostola species were revised. The first colonial anemone Cereus herpetodes was reported. Finally a protocol for sampling, preservation and examination of soft-bodied hexacorals was published. |
