The distribution and the taxonomical status of Dina stschegolewi sensu Nesemann is unclear. Lukin & Epstein (1960) discribed Dina stschegolewi from the Crimea as a leech without longitudinal black lines. The description by Nesemann (1993) and Nesemann & Neubert (1999) mentions three dark longitudinal stripes (one pair of paramedian stripes and one median stripe) of the dorsal surface as being characteristic. Specimens with this colouration are common in the Near and Middle East. Nesemann assigned them to Dina stschegolewi because the locus typicus is in the region. However, it is more likely that they are a new species.

The specimens of Iranian Limnatis, identified by C. Grosser, are still assigned to Limnatis nilotica. Probably, Limnatis nilotica can be subdivited into several species in the future. First genetic investigations support this idea (as said in a letter by P. Trontelj). After the clarification the taxonomy of Limnatis the material from Iran had to be verified once more. Perhaps, L. paluda sensu Bennike and L. nilotica sensu Grosser are one species.
