Please excuse this week's several announcements of this
National Call to Action for Climate Stabilization being
catalyzed by next month's US national release in movie theaters
of the acclaimed climate movement Canadian documentary
The Great Warming narrated by Alanis Morissette and Keanu Reeves.

Please consider taking action, like we have here in our local
area by booking this film into our local independent theater
and at the theater owner's suggestion creating a concurrent
Community Energy Expo to offer booths and exhibits, info,
etc about individual actions for climate stabilization. You
can contact the film's producer and distributor via their site
http://www.thegreatwarming.com Frustrated volunteer activists like me are also teaming up with one of the film's national corporate sponsors which offers a practical pragmatic methodology for climate activism by doing a part time business offering products at the grassroots level to make homes and vehicles and businesses carbon neutral by offering green energy certificates and green products to cut electric and vehicle fuel bills and thereby reduce pollutions and greenhouse gas emissions associated with fossil fuels, fomenting a Green Energy Revolution benefiting Earth and wallets. The Fall release of the new documentary The Great Warming will be the centerpiece of a broad coalition effort to stimulate debate and activism about global warming. (See www.thegreatwarming.com)

The Great Warming, produced by Stonehaven and narrated by
Alanis Morissette and Keanu Reeves, is a dramatic film about
climate change that sweeps around the world to reveal how a
changing climate is affecting the lives of people everywhere.
It has been called "the best film about global warming ever shot",
and taps into the growing groundswell of public interest in this
topic to present an emotional, accurate picture of our children's
planet. The Great Warming includes hard-hitting comments from
scientists and opinion-makers about America's lack of leadership
in what is certainly the most critical environmental issue of the
21st century, as well as new scenes documenting the emerging
voice of the American Evangelical community urging action on
climate change.

When The Great Warming opens in [October] it will be accompanied
by the "Call to Action Project", a cooperative effort to support the
film and use it as a key to broadening the debate. A broad coalition
of NGOs and corporate sponsors will participate. Some of the
organizations involved include Friends of the Earth, the Sierra Club,
the Center for a New American Dream, the National Council of Churches,
Sojourners and Call for Renewal, the Climate Institute, the Union of
Concerned Scientists, Common Good and numerous other organizations,
including For the Future. The "Call to Action" will be supported by many
individuals, including Congresswoman Lois Capps, John Kermond (director
of outreach at NOAA), the Rev. Paul de Vries at New York Divinity School,
and Rev. Gerald Durley from the Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta.
Corporate partners include Swiss Reinsurance, The Body Shop,
and Krystal Planet.

When The Great Warming is released in some 600 theaters this fall,
the Call to Action project participants will mount a publicity campaign
to get people to see the film, and an information initiative to help people
learn more about the problem and get involved in solutions. The project
will help local organizations distribute materials in theaters, organize
letter writing campaigns, lobby elected officials, and get the message
out to the community at large. Interestingly, a major component of
the campaign will involve leaders from the community of faith and the
Creation Care movement, and an initiative to get local clergy involved
in teaching their congregations about the dangers we face from
climate change.

The Call to Action campaign won't be more liberal politics as usual.
There's a startling intensity to this effort, growing out of a recognition
that disaster is certain if we don't do something soon. Contact us at
info@forthefuture.org for more information about how to be a part
of the Call to Action campaign.

Hitching Post Theaters -- www.hitchingposttheaters.com General Electric yesterday agreed to co-sponsor our local event with an Expo booth and ad in our special edition of the community newspaper to promote their products and their local GE Wind subsidiary. Next week, the US Distributor of The Great Warming film expects to announce the 1st 50 or more cities where they will be opening the movie, and the start date, expected to be late October. Corporate sponsorship of this film is good for business sponsors: The Midwest Premier of this film that Krystal Planet is sponsoring nationally, The Great Warming, was a smashing success. A sell-out (> 300 tickets sold) and enthusiastic crowd enjoyed the documentary, 12 speakers, 22 exhibitors, and a couple of terrific performances by Shawn Gallaway (creator of our theme song, the New Energy Movement, a brief clip of which can be heard on the Krytal Planet websites). http://www.newenergymovement.org As a result of Krystal Planet sponsoring the film nationally, and its sister company Pristine Power sponsoring the Midwest Premiere, 19 Press Passes to various media representatives were issued resulting in at least four (4) articles being written about the event and the film, with mention of KP or PPC in the articles. Two more small pieces were written in the Kansas City Star and Sun Newspaper prior to the Premiere and two more are supposedly being written right now. A small company example, for the 1st time in the company's history, Krystal Planet made the national press. Below is a copy of a Reuters article written about the film. This story by Carey Gillam was the top news story in America on Sunday and Monday. It was picked up by roughly 70 media outlets, including: Washington Post, the New York Times, Yahoo Top Stories; ABC News; AOL News; Netscape News; EcoEarth; Political News; Grist Environmental Magazine; MSN; All Media News; Climate Ark; Moviefone; Yahoo Movies; Reuters AlertNet of London; Monsters & Critics; and ET Online. -------- http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/09/10/AR2006091003 61.html http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060910/film_nm/environment_religion_dc Global warming film unites preachers and politics By Carey Gillam - Reuters Sun Sep 10, 12:10 PM ET OVERLAND PARK, Kansas (Reuters) - Coming soon to a movie screen near you: prayers, politics and a feature-length film, united in an effort to mobilize religious groups around global warming concerns in time for the U.S. midterm election. With a new documentary titled "The Great Warming" as their chief campaign tool, a coalition of religious leaders, environmentalists and businesses are spreading copies of the film into churches around the country. Voter guides and themed sermons are also part of the plan. The aim of the screenings, like one held in Kansas last week, is to turn the large and powerful conservative Christian constituency into a voting block united behind making the reduction of greenhouse gases a top priority among politicians. Evangelical Christian leaders have embraced the cause and are now helping spur momentum before both midterm elections in November and the 2008 presidential election. "In the past, white evangelicals have been largely Republican and the environment has traditionally been a Democratic issue ... so there are political implications in terms of alliances," said Joel Hunter, who serves on the National Association of Evangelicals board and as senior pastor of the 12,000-member Northland Church in Longwood, Florida. "But there is no doubt about the mandate of scripture here. We need to do what we can to care for the Earth," Hunter said by telephone. "We want to lead people into the arena where it will have an affect on how they vote." The movement by faith communities to become more active on environmental issues has been growing over the last several years with many undertaking energy-saving and energy-education projects that they describe as "creation care." Indeed, according to a July survey by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life, more than 70 percent of people of faith polled believed global warming was occurring. But the movement to turn that devotion into a political power base on global warming is only now getting under way. Advocates said they intended to put pressure on both Republicans and Democrats to be more active in seeking to reduce global warming. A national rollout of "The Great Warming" at U.S. cinemas starts in October. The plan also calls for more than 500 sermons on global warming and lists of questions for church members to ask political candidates. FROM TALK TO ACTION The National Council of Churches, with an estimated 45 million members, Presbyterians for Restoring Creation and leaders of the National Association of Evangelicals are helping develop online promotions, newsletters and campaign materials for film screenings, including one planned for September 30 at the Washington National Cathedral. African-American mobilization is part of the agenda as well, with a September 21 screening led by the Rev. Gerald Durley, a former civil-rights activist who leads a large Baptist congregation in Atlanta. "We're hoping to get this in before the elections," said Karen Coshof, the independent Canadian documentary maker who produced "The Great Warming." "It's time to get beyond talk to action." Global warming concerns stem from scientific evidence that layers of carbon dioxide heat -- generated in part by power plants and automobiles -- is altering the climate and leading to deadly heat waves, drought and disastrous flooding. Many conservative political and business groups, which generally support the same politicians as white evangelicals, challenge the conclusions as faulty and alarmist, however, and say efforts to rein in CO2 emissions will hurt the economy. Still, "Great Warming" backers say the tide has turned in their favor amid overwhelming scientific data and growing public concern. And they say, many businesses are recognizing action is needed, including Zurich-based Swiss Re, one of the world's leading reinsurance companies and a chief financial backer of the film. "I am what you call a green Republican ... and there are a number of us out there," said Troy Helming, founder of the Kansas-based Krystal Planet alternative energy company, which also backs the film. "It is unfortunate that the party ... has kind of lost its way in terms of environmental issues." --------end fwd article Please do your part personally to help climate stabilization by saving significant money on energy costs using clean energy devices.
