Mustangs won their biggest share of glory in Europe
Winning the Touring class at the Tour de France 1964

3 Mustangs were entered by Alan Mann Racing/UK and one by Ford of France and lead most of the individual races in the touring class during the TDF.
They actually came in 8th and 9th behind two Ferraris, four Porsches and an Alfa Romeo. Theirs was only a category (Touring) win, but for us Mustangers, it made the biggest impact in road-races in the 60ies..

Thanks to Jeffry Harris/USA, we got a letter dated August 6, 1964 from Henry Carlini (Special Promotions Department, to Mr. Alan Mann of Alan Mann Racing, indicating that he sent the invoices of four rally cars shipped in July to Alan Mann. It shows 5F07K208109, 5F07K208110, 5F07K208111 and 5F07K208112.

These VINs can related to the 3 TDF Mustangs (licenced as DPK5B, 6B and 7B)plus one spare car (DPK4B) that was brought over to France as well by Alan Mann.

There is a lot to say about the modifications. Modified engines were delivered to Alan Mann by Holman-Moody. I have made an interview with Alan Mann in late June 2002.

So far known details about the race, the drivers and the cars can be found on our club webpage
