"Talisman" trio in New Year concert at Palmschen castle
Audience loves the new gypsy music
The Freiberg/Monchfeld cultural circle opened its 14th season on 20th January at Palmschen castle with the traditional New Year concert. The castle was packed, and the 100-strong audience loved the new gypsy music of the trio Talisman". Vadim Koulitski, leader of the group and guitarist, comes from Siberia and once appeared before George Bush in Moscow playing his own compositions! The brilliant violinist, Olexsander Klimas from the Ukraine, began to play the violin when he was only seven. He composes and arranges his own pieces. The third band member is Oleg Nehls on accordion. He was educated in St. Petersburg and has been living and working in Berlin since 1995; it was there he met the other two members of the group in the winter of 2000/2001 to complete the line-up. Unles you hand heard it for yourself, you would never believe how they could recreate with their instruments the sounds of fire burning or birds singing, and combine a waltz and tango. You were transported to the Siberian Steppes, a Parisian cafe or a tango club in Buenos Aires. Many a member of the audience began to doubt what they were hearing, because they could hear not only the expected sounds, but also a drum or bass. After two hours and two encores, shouts from the audience and endless applause reflected the quality not only of the acoustic experience, but also the visual one, especially for the female members of the audience. Thanks are due to the chairperson of the Cultural society, Russian-speaking Valentina Berg, without whom the concert would not have happened. 24th June 7pm. The "mournful violin" and "fiery guitar" of the duo "Talisman" were right at the centre of the programme, chasing at the heels of the audience, overtaking it and drawing it in to the intoxicating sounds which Alexander Klimas, Russia's present-day Paganini, coaxed from his instrument. The audience loved it.Umzugsblatt December 2000

The event was organised by Music Department head Mervin Grand. He said it was important for children to hear music from around the world. Vadim Kulitski, Olexander Klimas and Oleg Nehls performed for islanders on Monday night as part of the Schroders World Music Series 2001. The group was the first of four acts from three continents lined up for the series. Guitarist Vadim said that the group enjoys playing to children because they are less critical and enjoy the music for what it is. We never feel so excited as we do playing for children Vadim Kulitski of the gypsy trio Loyko by Melissa Mason "We always feel a very positive energy coming from them. They are very welcoming. We get a big positive feedback," he said. "When you see children they are usually very loud, when you see them so quiet they are really appreciative. Children just absorb the music. We never feel so excited as we do playing for children." Amherst Juniors Ben Forman, 10, Thomas Bourgaize, 9, and Mark Jeffreys, 10, were enthralled with the performance. "It was really fast. I have never heard that sort of music before," they said. They said it was a good idea to hear music from other parts of the world. Melrose pupils Heather Watson and Kate Smith, both 8, were impressed with the performance. "They were really good at playing their instruments and they had very big voices," they said.
