Introduction
Anybody wanting to do systematic libary based research on shoplifting and EAS could use also use the Library of Congress (http://catalog.loc.gov/) classifications HF5429..., HV 6651..., HV 6652... , HV6665... or HV 6658... and law of KF9352..., equivalent to Dewey Decimal Numbers: 364.16/2, for theft and robbery 343.71, law 345.73 or 658.4, RFID transponders 621.396 and retailing in general: 339.012. Internationally searchable meta library catalogues (usually referred to as "OPAC") may be found at:
KVK - Karlsruher Virtueller Katalog, KVK 75 million records, mainly from Germany, Switzerland and Austria. With links to meta-catalogues from Italy, the UK (COPAC, BLC), Scandinavia (BIBSYS etc) and some Eastern European National Libraries.
CCFR - Catalogue Collectif de FranceCCFR, searches 15 million records from 160 French establishments. French interface only.
RLIN - Eureka - of the Research Libraries Group Eureka, searches mainly US scientific libraries. Usually not available freely on the web, but by way of terminals within participating institutions only. In 2003 it includes 132m records, equal to approx 40m titles. It also links to additional databases, most notably CURL [UK] with 19m records, 73% of them in English.
NACSIS-Webcat OPAC, searches Japanese libraries. English and Japanese interface, results output in Japanese only.
Anybody specifically interested in patents may research the USPTO full text database or the EPO sites, who also provide a link for research of Japanese patents using an English interface.
Whereas the main page concentrates on the legal aspects of "Shoplifting in Germany" only, this bibliography intends to give an overview of the relevant literature worldwide. Related areas not included would be security, policing or retailing in general. This bibliography selectively includes only monographs, government reports and conference proceeedings, but excludes novels. Electronic resources, film and electronic media are also not listed. For articles from magazines – which make up most of the relevant published material – please refer to relevant contents bibliographies, like the Science Citation Index, Periodical Contents Index or IBZ; using these will usually require access to a subscribing academic library as they require fee paying subscriptions.
The inclusion of a title in this list does not constitute an endorsement of such title's content. Most books listed will be of the shoplifting-prevention type. Topics like EAS/RFID-technology are also included.
This list is divided into sections according to publication language. Within each language entries are sorted by the (main) author's/editor's surname or name of corporate body.
Each record should contain the following information (in this order): Author's surname, First name, Title (in italics), Place, Year, Publisher (in paranthesis), no. of pages, ISBN; additional information, annotations or comments, usually in [brackets]. Not all items contain all this information. [s.l. = no place set; s.n. = without year; Anon. = anonymous or more then 3 authors; introductory roman paginations are omitted] At the beginning of each language section keywords are given.
A .pdf version of this Bibliography is available for download [280k].
