Introduction

What is "Parents Friend"

Parent Friend has 2 modes

Mode 1 (Normal-Mode):

You can log any activity and protect programs with a password. Further more you can lock the pc any hour in the week you want with the mainpassword. This modus is activated after installation.

Mode 2 (User-Mode)

You can give users (up to 5) allowed programs in their program-lists. All user-times can be limited. You can limit the maximal daily hours and maximal weekly hours on the pc. You also can lock the pc every hour in the week you want (for every user different)

Parts of the program-paket

winadm.exe

is the main program and runs invisibly in the background. In order to make it visible press the hotkey Ctrl+Shift+F7, then a main password is necessary. This mainpassword is first only the ENTER-key. Later you can change your own password. Winadm.exe is selfprotecting itself. To deactivate "Parents Friend" you need the mainpassword !!!

winadmkill.exe

Is for to stop "Parents Friend" or to deinstall it. To start winadmkill you need the mainpassword of "Parents Friend" !

Installation

Download "pfsetup.exe" in any directory

Start the "pfsetup.exe"

Here only all give adjustments need to be acknowledged
At the time of termination question, whether the program is to be started now click "yes". In case of "no", winadm.exe can be started also still later in WINDOWS\System\winadm.exe.

Make "Parents Friend" visible / Password

"Parents Friend" runs after installation invisibly in the background

in order to to make the interface visible, press the hotkey Ctrl+Shift+F7

a window with the request for input for the main password appaers. This is first only the ENTER-key.

Deinstallation

You only can deinstall or stop-running "Parents Friend" with "usins000.exe in the Installation-folder or with "winadmkill.exe" in the Windows-System-folder. Both ways requires the "Parents Friend"-mainpassword.

"Parents Friend" has 3 Windows:

Tasks-Window

General:

"Parents Friend" protects programs over the text of ist Windows titles and/or over their file names. If a in such a way protected program is started, "Parents Friend" opens a password-window over the entire display. You only can close it with the correct password. On wrong password "Parents Friend" closes the protected program.

"Parents Friend" displays two lists

In the upper list you see the active running programs. You can transfer it to the lower protected area with a doule-click on this program.

Importantly: The program which you want to protect must run, so that it appaers in the upper list.

2) In the lower-list you see the protected programs

Exclusiv-List:

Between the both lists you see check-Field with the words: "For these programs no password-protection. For other programs you need the mainpassword"

On this Option "Parents Friend" will be asking a password for all programs you start they are not in this list !!! The password you need then is the "Parents Friend"-mainpassword.

Compare partial

When you choose this for a program then every program with this part of the string in his name is protected (When you protect an "e" with partial-compare then ever program ist protected J

Temporally limit for a program

When you choose this, you can choose if you need a password or not.

Options-Window

Loops(in ms): Time-different for "Parents Friend" to look for a protected program

Windows-Titel/Filenames/both: orders "Parents Friend" in what way it must look for a protected program

Selection: protect only programs with visible windows or all windows

startup on boot: "Parents Friend" will start after boot and selfprotecting itself

After boot go directly in the User-Area (User-Mode):

In the User-Mode you have no access to windows

show no ok-window when hide this program:

Normaly "Parents Friend" shows a little window after his start. On this window you see the information of the hotkey and you must click on the "ok"-button.

keystroke-recording: records all keystrokes in a logfile.

Protocol on: The default-logfile is in Windows-System-folder with the name "winadmlog.txt" (it can be changed with the button "Logfilename". The file is encrypted. You only can see the text with "Parents Friend" or when you send it by email.

Send logfile every xx hours as email: You need inputs in the following 3 Fields

Basically you need an internet-connection. Additionally you need a own email-name and a email-server just like "mail.gmx.de"
"Parents Friend" can send only when ""Parents Friend"" detects that you are online. In other case "Parents Friend" does not try sending the logfile. Or you select the option "sending on every make connect to internet". On this cas ""Parents Friend"" send on this moment when the modem dials in. Thinking on this: When your setting is maybe "send email every 2 hours" but the user is allways 1 hour online then you never get a logfile by email.
When you sure there is a permanent Online-connection, you should select this option. "Parents Friend" allways try to send the email after the selected time. But when you not online this monment, the data-communications window opens.

protecting windows after boot with the mainpassword: If activates, after windows-start ""Parents Friend"" put a password-window over the entire screen. You only !!! can close it with the "Parents Friend"-mainpassword.

Erase all settings:

Deletes all informations of protected programs as well as any passwords and email-settings

Shows all Informations about

Started and terminated programs
Pressed keys of the keyboard
Visited Browser-links on Internet and the file-system
Attempts to outwit ""Parents Friend""

User-Area

Here are the 6 userprofiles. The first profile is named "free zone" and doesn´t contain pssword-protection or time-limits like the other 5 userprofiles.

To take a new file in a userprofile click on the menu "File->New" and select a application.

The user 1-5 you can be given weekly and daily limits to use the pc. When their time is over all programs get closes automatically and no new program-start is possible.

After a user has input his correctly password his time is running.

The time only stops when he clicks on "free zone" or his time is over. The rest-time is shown on the right-side of the applications-window.

The restrictions are made simply:

The blue mask of "Parents Friend" is shown allways on the entire screen and you can go out of this area -in no case- . So you can´t execute any other program neither can see any other menu of window.

Note 1:

Whenn you minimize a program, you see it´s name on the left-bottom-side of the screen. When you click on this name, the program will get his normaly size.

Note 2:

In the user-mode the password protection of the normal-mode is active

How to protect a program

Make "Parents Friend" visible with the hotkey Ctrl+Shift+F7

Input the mainpassword and the task-window will be displayed

Start the program you want to protect. Then in the top list you see this program with his windows-title or/and the pathname. (This you can choose on the to-right area of the "Parents Friend" interface)

Listen: "Parents Friend" is always in foreground.

Doubleclick the program you want to protect and this name will be taken to the bottom-list. The first time the password-field is empty. Choose a password and --> ready.

Note 1: when "Parents Friend" is visible, protected programs will not ask for a password when you start them.

Note 2: you will be ask for a password every time new when you start a protected program. Only exeption: this program is always running on a first instance.
